You've been at this for a while now.
You've read the books, listened to the podcasts, maybe even joined a critique group or two. You can write gorgeous sentence. Hell, you’ve even made yourself cry.
But something's still not clicking.
The structure feels wobbly. Your characters meander here and there and everywhere. And that theme you know is buried in your novel? It's playing hide-and-seek like a toddler who's found the crawlspace under your stairs. Where the hell did they go?
You need this book to be not just good, not just a page-turner, you need it to be right. Because this novel is about more than getting a book deal or becoming a best seller, it’s about saying something—to yourself, to your reader, and maybe even to the world.
But now you’re staring at a bunch of words
by the midnight-light of your phone,
overwhelmed and uncertain.
Is your idea any good? Is your writing engaging? And what do you do with all that beta reader (or AI) feedback that’s trying to make your story into something you don’t want it to be?
It’s time to stop:
moving commas back and forth (and back again)
relying on free writing events
asking yourself the same questions over and over
binging writing podcasts
using the “Am I ready to publish?” checklist you found online
revising your first chapter for the 37th time
reading another craft book
getting advice from your (equally lost) critique partners
It’s time to stop trying to
do it all on your own.
It’s time for a
Blueprint Strategy Session.
What is a Blueprint Strategy Session?
An opportunity to get a professional editor’s eyes on the most important elements of your book so you can quickly and affordably know what shape your manuscript is in.
How does it work?
Once your session is booked, I’ll send you the Mini-Blueprint to complete with your book’s details. You’ll compile the first 3,000 words of your novel (don’t worry, they don’t need to be perfect!), and you’ll fill out a coaching application so I can learn more about you, your book, and whether I’m a good fit to support you should you decide you want more support.
You’ll send all this goodness to me a few days before we meet. I’ll assess your Mini-Blueprint for essential story elements like character, conflict, genre, and plot, then I’ll devour your pages to get a feel for your voice, tone, and the utter deliciousness of your book.
During our hour-long call (we’ll allot 90-minutes, just in case), we’ll talk through what I noticed, brainstorm solutions for plot holes, and make a plan for your next step. I want to hear why this story matters to you, what worries you have about it, and where you’re feeling most flummoxed.
You’ll come away from your session feeling seen, empowered, and focused.
Who are the Sessions for?
Any writer who has a general idea of what their book is about and has written some of it. You don’t need to have everything figured out and you don’t need a completed manuscript (though you can certainly have one). Blueprint Strategy Sessions are great for every stage of writing, whether you’re planning, drafting, revising, or pitching.
I’m a good coach for people who hold one or more historically marginalized identities (queer, BIPOC, neurodivergent, disabled, immigrants, women) and those who fiercely support them. My genre specialties are fantasy, soft science fiction (think dystopian rather than military sci-fi), and young adult, though I’m open to coaching any heart-centered book.
your Session with
You’ll come away from
new connections, ideas,
and confidence, plus:
An outside perspective of your work (so you can escape those late-night thought-spirals)
An objective assessment of which story elements are working (the characters!) and which aren’t (the total absence of plot!)
Relief that someone finally knows why this story matters so much
New insight after discussing your book with someone who knows story and knows your story
Personalized next steps based on what your book needs (rather than generic advice from ChatGPT or that 15-minute pitch session with an agent who obviously didn’t get it)
When you’re writing a book that’s grown from your lived experience, identities, and life-long questions, you need someone who can who can understand what this book means to you so you can sort through your long-buried fears, untangle your story knots, and figure how to make your book all you want it to be.
Hi, I'm Dani Abernathy.
I’m a book coach and Enneagram teacher who helps deep thinkers and feelers write the stories they need to tell so their readers can feel seen and can see others.
I believe stories can change the world, one reader at a time, because they teach us to have more compassion for ourselves and others.
Stories are one of our most powerful tools for having less war and more love, and that’s why I’m on a mission to support folks like you as you write brave stories that tell the truth (even in a fantasy world).
Let me be as real as the
background of this photo.
If I think I can help you take your book from “What the hell do I do with this?” to “This is the story I wanted to tell,” I am 100% going to invite you to work with me.
A one-time conversation isn’t enough for me to understand the ins and outs of your novel, help you figure out what’s really driving your protagonist, or sit with you while you find the courage to put your truth on the page.
When the most important thing is getting your book right, you need to gift of writing slow and deep.
And that’s what the Rooted Writers Mentorship is all about.
So if you know you don’t want help moving forward, that’s fine, but if you do, think of this as our first date—a chance for us to go to way too deep way too fast, talk about your deepest hopes and dreams, and for you to suss out whether I lied on my book coach profile.
